Biography

Hugues-Vincent Roy is Swiss, 42 years old, graduated in physics and PhD in Science from the University of Lausanne (Switzerland). After a couple of year in fundamental research in Sweden and USA, he worked for Tetra Pak PET Packaging Systems on plasma barrier coating on PET bottles. He joined Aisapack in 1999, first as director R&D Packaging and since 2005 as managing director.

His main contributions are in the development of new packaging made of PET and of flexible laminate and of barrier solution for plastic components or packages.

Abstract

Plastic and laminate tubes are packaging solutions existing since a long time for oral care, cosmetic and food applications. These packages are less used in pharmaceutical because they traditionally present barrier weaknesses in the moulded shoulder. This area is effectively a barrier "hole" where oxygen and volatile organic compounds can readily escape the packaging systems. Aisapack has developed an ultimate plastic barrier tube with integrated multi-layer tube sleeve and shoulder providing a total barrier system.

Composition, production and performance of these barrier tubes will be discussed.
