Biography
Gustav Levander has a certificate in polymer engineering. He holds a degree in market economics and a master in management.
Gustav has been working in the life science area since 1989 mainly within the area of management. He has been manager of packaging development at Pharmacia, consumer healthcare, extensively involved in design of packaging and drug delivery systems for over the counter pharmaceuticals.
Further work has encompassed management roles within the area of sales, development and production of medical devices, drug delivery systems and pharmaceutical packaging.
He has been with Gerresheimer in Scandinavia since 2005 and is currently responsible for product development within the Gerresheimer Plastic Packaging division.
Gustav Levander has been a member of SPE since 1985.

Abstract
Gerresheimer is a leading company in the area specialty products made of glass and plastic for the pharma & life science industry. The group of companies manufactures in plants in America, Europe and Asia and employs about 11 000 people.
The Gerresheimer Plastic Packaging division offer consists of plastic packaging with various design features for dosage and application, and for example tamper-evident closures. The packaging serve as primary packaging for both liquid and solid substances such eye drops, nasal sprays, tablets and powders. The business unit has expanded extensively over the last months and will now include PET as well as several new products and production units in Spain and South America.
The PMP presentation is covering the area of new requirements creating the need for improved stability of solid formulations. The recent technical development in terms of the Duma Twist off series with integrated desiccant will be presented. Also the state of the art production and its benefits will be discussed.
Gerresheimer have received the 2007 German Packaging Award, the 2008 Starpack Award as well as the international WorldStar for the ground-breaking innovation of the desiccant closure systems. The product has also been nominated for the President’s Award from the World Packaging Organisation (WPO).
This solution creates a new solid packaging platform for the demanding pharmaceutical industry, competitive to traditional high barrier systems.
