Abstract

On top of the fact that the performance of pharmaceutical labelling materials should be of the highest level possible, the need for extra features such as security is growing.

Pharmaceutical companies are increasingly focussing on tampered and anti-counterfeit packaging. Counterfeiting is a serious threat for all industries, particularly the pharmaceutical industry. There are different possibilities to prevent counterfeiting to a certain extend, but it’s difficult to prevent someone from making a bad copy.

Different techniques are needed in preventing counterfeiting on a higher level. The market is continuously developing new technologies and security features, also in labelling. Tracking & tracing support such as RFID labels can be used in combination with other techniques to authenticate products. Labelling materials can provide support in anti counterfeit packaging.
