Abstract

The lecture starts with an overview of
compliance packaging - what constitutes
compliance packaging, when is it required, basic examples of Compliance Package Styles.

Child Resistance legislations in Europe and North America have a strong influence on packaging in general, and particularly on compliance packaging. The differences in legislations and the influence on packaging in Western Europe and North America are explained.

As most drugs are distributed in all major regions, including Western Europe and North America, responsible managers often face the challenge of defining a global packaging strategy, having to meet specific regional requirements at the same time.

Facing this challenge, possible packaging strategies and package styles are evaluated with respect to the above.

Finally, a few package styles and the packaging machinery meeting the above requirements will be presented:

  • SmartWallet, a wallet style packaging which can be manufactured on horizontal cartoning machines,
  • PullPack, a special package style which can be opened by pulling out one flap
  • FlexWallet, wallet pack based on flexible material
  • Pharma SHR, a unique child resistant packaging offering F=1 child resistance for any primary packaging
