Abstract

Printed electronics, manufactured with the aid of new printing processes using soluble conducting and Semi-conducting materials, can be produced in very large numbers using extremely thin and flexible films as substrate – at extremely favourable unit cost. Thus for example, printed RFID tags are produced. This application will benefit enormously from low priced electronics that is available in high volumes.

PolyIC focuses on two product lines: PolyID for printed RFID and PolyLogo for printed smart objects. On the long term, printed RFID will be developed for the use as electronic product code (EPCtm) and enable product based item-level-tagging, while the first products will be used for applications like brand protection and authentification.

In the presentation, recent results based on pilot processes and feedback from pilot application will be presented as well as an outlook on first products of printed electronics and the future potentials up to item level tagging and ubiquitous intelligence for smart packaging.
