Child Resistant Packaging. Delivering Child Safety and Simultaneously Exceeding the Forthcoming Standard for Adult Open-Ability, Adults up to 80 years of age 70% female. And Adding Value Whenever Possible
  • A common criticism of child packaging is the difficulty experienced by elderly adults in opening it; notwithstanding the fact that for years it has been the only packaging that was subject to openability testing by a panel of adults aged 50-70. Now CEN the Pan European standard setter is drafting and debating a new standard for openability of all packaging. This standard is rigorous and calls for testing by a panel aged 60-80. The presentation will major on a case study where two well known CR packs were subjected to testing by this panel prior to the standard’s publication. Results will be described and inferences drawn
  • Design criteria which contribute to ease of opening will be described
  • The impact of environmental constraints will be discussed
  • Opportunities to add value will be included in the presentation
Stephen Wilkins, Child-Safe Packaging Group, Wrexham, United Kingdom
