Abstract

Plastics belong to the most flexible materials of modern times and the healthcare and diagnostics (HD) industry is one of the most important and advanced industries these materials are employed in; mistakes are not allowed.

Being highly regulated and having development processes of several years, the requirements of the healthcare and diagnostics market are especially high. Plastics suppliers who want to successfully serve this market must guarantee their customers a constant product quality, the performance of basic suitability tests and long term supply. These services can be combined in a high-performance property profile that additionally represents, among other things, the intention not to change the formulation in the long term and that offers different advantages for the customer such as reduced testing and approval efforts and safe planning.

Product safety is not only guaranteed through various preliminary compatibility tests, but the HD grades moreover meet important European and American requirements and a Drug Master File is compiled for all products.

The HD product portfolio includes:

  1. Terlux® 2802 and 2812 HD, transparent MABS grades combining the advantages of ABS and PMMA,
  2. Terluran® HD-15, an ABS especially standing out for its improved chemical resistance,
  3. Luran® HD, a SAN type having the decisive advantage of a particularly low level of inherent color and thus an outstanding clarity and last but not least
  4. Ultraform® S2320 003 PRO and Ultraform® W2320 003 PRO, both semicrystalline materials that withstand mechanical stress very well and moreover the first engineering plastics in the HD family optimized for applications in medical technology.
