Biography

Sari Häkli is Sales Manager for Stora Enso Digital Solutions. She has been with the company since 1988 working in sales and IT of Packaging Boards and most recently in pharmaceutical solutions sales.  In her current position Sari is responsible for sales and business development of digital solutions focusing to European market.  Sari holds Master’s Degree in Knowledge Management from the Technical University of Lappeenranta in Finland.

Abstract

As patient non-compliance with medication is a universal problem, it is vital to make taking the right medication at the right time as easy as possible. Effective unit dose packaging design can increase compliance, thereby helping patients achieve the maximum benefits from their prescribed medication.

Intelligent packaging solutions enable also monitoring of the patient compliance by providing. Intelligent pharmaceutical packages provide exact data on the patient adherence and persistence and new tools for medication monitoring and clinical trials. Intelligence can be embedded to the package itself or reminders and feedback entry can in the form of a separate electronic card. Intelligent packaging offers also a unique and cost-efficient system to measure and monitor the ambient temperature of transportation packages.

High end digital printing—or “print on demand” technology is starting to transform the packaging segment giving packaging converters the ability to respond rapidly to their customers’ needs, for short runs spurred by targeted marketing, increased regulatory and compliance requirements. Digital printing enables item-level product identification for tracking and tracing, as well as advanced anti-counterfeiting measures. Early adopters are enjoying the benefits with digital package production.
